Marking 2021 Earth Day, District 7040, along with the Rotary Districts  surrounding the Great Lakes and Watershed, are organizing a first-ever Rotary Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup on April 24, 2021. To date, we have commitments from 15 Districts bordering the Great Lakes as well as the Niagara, St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers and the Erie Canal in New York State..
 
Rotary International Director Valarie Wafer with Rotary International President Holger Knaack are both supportive of this collaborative project.
 
In Kingston and Loyalist Township, all the Rotary Clubs, partner organizations and volunteer citizens are working  together to organize   this event. We are working with municipalities to ensure appropriate removal of collected garbage.
 
 
We plan to clean about 20 sites, located in Loyalist, Kingston and the Islands.
 
Kingston West   
Rotary Park & Lemoine Point, Collins Bay Boat Launch, Little Cataraqui Banks (Bath/ Tanner) and Lake Ontario Park,  (Invista – in negotiation).
 
Kingston Central
Belle Park,  Dr Fluher (Friends of Inner Harbour), Confederation Park & Kingston Harbour, Simcoe to lower Union, KYC, Emily Street to Gord E Downie/Breakwater Park, Tett Centre, Kingston Penitentiary & POH  (Coast Guard)
 
Kingston East (east of Cataraqui River)
Grass Greek Park, Smaller Parks on St Lawrence River, Treasure Island Harbour, RMC/ Fort Henry/Arrowhead Beach Park.
 
Islands
Wolfe Island:  Big Sandy Bay
